2008 TEXTBOOK Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

BW comments- We feel fortunate to have come across TEXTBOOK’s table at a recent Oakville appellation tasting in Napa this past February.  It was great meeting Jonathan and Susan Pey  (Growers-Vintners-Stewards) and hearing “their story”.  In our opinion, this wine is absolutely amazing, and even more amazing when you consider it is an Oakville Cabernet for $50.  There is not much of this wine available so act fast.

Winery Summarized Notes--

Our first vintage was 2004 after almost 25 years working in Napa, Bordeaux and elsewhere and reflects the best we can do with Cabernet Sauvignon from the best Cabernet appellation of them all – OAKVILLE. In these four vintages TEXTBOOK Oakville has earned “90-Point Plus” scores from Robert Parker, Wine Spectator, Stephen Tanzer or Wine Enthusiast.

The vineyard is 30 years old and next door to Screaming Eagle. The vines are hand-pruned, hand picked, and grapes are twice hand-sorted before fermentation. Matured in superb new French oak barrels for almost two years and lightly egg-white fined before bottling it showcases great depth, density – all in a balanced framework that allows immediate enjoyment but rewards the more patient among us.

Mother Nature was (tough) in 2008 with very small (but delicious) clusters so production is down about 35%. It will be very scarce.
